The PAYE (Pay As You Earn) tax system in the UK is the method through which employees' income tax and National Insurance contributions are deducted directly from their wages or pension before they receive it. Employers are responsible for calculating and deducting these taxes on behalf of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
