Paul Mescal is an actor from Ireland. He became famous with his role as a lead in the miniseries *Normal People*, in which he was nominated for a nomination at the Primetime Emmys.
Before starting acting, he played Gaelic football for the under-21 team for County Kildare and a player with Maynooth Football Club, in the defender position. His previous coach Cian O'Neill said of Paul Mescal as "very mature for someone so young. Physically, he was very strong. He was an outstanding scorer." Following a jaw injury, Paul had to stop playing Gaelic football.
In 2017, he earned his degree with a BA in Arts from Dublin's Trinity College University.
Two years later, in 2019, he started acting with an appearance on a pilot episode of the television series *Bump*.
By 2020, Paul Mescal got his first leading roles. He acts as Connell Waldron in the series *Normal People* opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones and portrays Sean McKeogh in the series *The Deceived*.
By 2021, Paul Mescal appears in his first full-length movie, *The Lost Daughter* by Maggie Gyllenhaal, in which he plays an Irish beach attendant in Greece.
In 2023, he was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category at the Oscars for his portrayal in the feature film *Aftersun* by Charlotte Wells. Additionally, he got the main role in *Gladiator 2* by Ridley Scott, and filming scheduled to start in June of 2023.
